Friars Defeat Cardinals at Home for First Time Since 2019, Improve to 3-0 in District Play

DALLAS, Texas -- Three Friars scored in double-digits as Bishop Lynch defeated rival John Paul II 66-56 last night in a packed Competition Gym. This victory marked the first time the Friars had beaten the Cardinals since 2021 and the first time they have defeated them at home since 2019.

Jeremiah Williams had his eighth game with 20 or more points, as he led the team with 20 last night. Nathan Day had another efficient night on the court, filling up the stat sheet with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, a block, and a steal. He is currently 20th in the D-FW area in assists on the season, averaging 4.0 a game.

Despite having to come out of the game early in the first quarter due to blood on his jersey, Jagan Thomas continued to shine during his sophomore season, as he scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Grady Norton seems to have found his rhythm over the last few games. He was big in the first half making three shots from beyond the arc to finish with nine points.

The Friars were dominant in the paint all night. They outscored the Cardinals 28-16 and had a rebounding edge of 37-19. That was much in part to Ishmael Muhammad, who came off the bench to score eight points and get 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. With his size and strength, he has proven to be a menace during district play, averaging 6.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Roll players proved to be a big factor in the Friars' win last night. Both Paxton Scalf and Isaiah Baker made key three pointers throughout the night. Baker also grabbed four rebounds.
