Three Notes
  • The Bishop Lynch Friars take on the Nolan Catholic Vikings on Thursday afternoon with a trip to the TAPPS State Championship on the line. This marks the third meeting between the two teams this season. 
  • Since 2007, Bishop Lynch holds a 31-1 advantage over Nolan Catholic, including a 30-match winning streak. 
  • This is the first postseason meeting between the two programs since the 2021 area playoff round, when the Friars won 3-0. 
Players to Watch

Senior Maddie Sue Pflum has been the anchor of the net this year for the Friars. She led the team in blocks with 80 and was third on the team in kills with 217. In the two matches against Nolan, Pflum had 12 kills and six blocks, as well as adding three aces. 

The Vikings won the TAPPS 6A District 1 championship with the big season from Josie Burgdorf. She was second on the team in total kills and led the Vikings in kills in the two matchups against BL this season. In those two matchups, she had 17 kills, five digs, and two blocks.

The last time the Friars dropped a match to the Vikings was on October 16, 2008, when the Vikings swept the Friars. Since then, Bishop Lynch has won 30 straight over Nolan.

In the two matches this season against Nolan, Bishop Lynch has hit .232 in the first sets to jump out to a 1-0 advantage. When the Friars take the first set this season, they are 16-4.

The Friars volleyball program has not reached the state semifinals since 2022.
