Murphy’s Big Night Gives Friars First Win of the Season

DALLAS – Madison Murphy had a breakout junior campaign last year, scoring 23 goals and adding seven assists. Now a senior and one of the team's three captains, Murphy made a big statement in Bishop Lynch's home opener on Thursday night. She scored twice and assisted on another goal to power the Friars to their first win of the season — a 3-0 victory over Home School Athletic Association.

Goals (Assists)
24' Bishop Lynch - Mila Van Loggerenberg (Madison Murphy)
51' Bishop Lynch - Murphy (Van Loggerenberg)
71' Bishop Lynch - Murphy PK

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a hard-fought draw in their season opener against Parish, the Friars looked sharper and more comfortable in front of their home crowd at Roffino Stadium. They controlled 56% of the possession and outshot the Angels 16-4, thanks in large part to crisp ball movement, completing 228 passes at a 75% success rate compared to HSAA's 129.

That precision paid off midway through the first half. After Serenity Collins drew a foul, she quickly restarted play to Murphy, who slipped a perfect pass to freshman Mila Van Loggerenberg. The newcomer delivered a composed finish from 16 yards out to score her first career goal in the Black and White.

Murphy and Van Loggerenberg flipped roles in the second half. Van Loggerenberg delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, and Murphy's first touch set up a strike to the bottom corner — her first goal of the season.

Late in the match, Anjali Mascarenhas drew a penalty inside the box. Murphy stepped up to the spot and confidently slotted it into the same bottom-right corner to seal the 3-0 win.

MATCH NOTES:
  • Van Loggerenberg becomes the second Friar this season to score her first career goal.
  • The Friars improve to 5-1 against HSAA since 2020.
  • Bishop Lynch moves to 17-3 in their last 20 home matches at Roffino Stadium.

NEXT UP:
The Friars return to the pitch on Tuesday, November 11, to take on Nolan Catholic at Roffino Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
