Friars Earn Draw Behind Murphy's Lone Goal

DALLAS — Fresh off a competitive three-match trip to Houston, where they went 1-1-1, the Bishop Lynch women's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Hockaday on Wednesday night at Roffino Stadium.

Senior captain Madison Murphy put the Friars on the board in the first half with her team-leading fourth goal of the season, finishing a setup from Serenity Collins, who recorded her first assist of the year. Goalkeeper Brianna Rosales was tested only a handful of times, making two saves in the match.

Goals (Assists)
20' Bishop Lynch - Madison Murphy (Serenity Collins)
40' Hockaday - Kora Thomas (Kaitlyn Adams)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

From the opening whistle, the Friars controlled the tempo. Bishop Lynch held 55.3% possession, outshot Hockaday 15–5, and completed 70 more successful passes while posting a higher overall pass success rate.

That dominance paid off in the 20th minute. Collins found Murphy centrally, and the senior delivered a smooth one-touch turn before striking a 25-yard shot into the net for the 1–0 advantage.

The Friars continued to dictate play, but with under 30 seconds remaining in the half, Hockaday capitalized on a long ball that caught the BL back line off guard, equalizing just before the break.

The second half turned into a defensive chess match, with both teams tightening up. Bishop Lynch produced the only two shots on goal of the final 40 minutes, but neither found the winner. After a full 80 minutes, the match ended level at 1–1.

WITH THE TIE:
  • Bishop Lynch moves to 3–1–3 on the season. The three draws are the program's most in a single season over the past decade.
  • The Friars' record against Hockaday is now 1-5-1 since 2019.
  • Murphy's fourth goal of the year brings her to 28 career goals in the Black & White.
NEXT UP:
The Friars return to Roffino Stadium tonight, December 12, for their final match of 2025 as they take on Woodrow Wilson. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
