Friars Open and Close Strong at South San Tournament

SAN ANTONIO — The Bishop Lynch men's basketball team turned in a competitive showing at the annual South San Tournament last weekend, finishing 3–2 with strong performances in both the opener and finale.

The Friars started the tournament with a win over Jefferson on Thursday and closed the event with back-to-back convincing victories against Davenport and South San on Saturday. Their two setbacks came during a tough Friday slate, falling to Wagner and O'Connor by a combined six points.

Game 1 vs. Jefferson
Bishop Lynch opened the tournament with authority, posting a season-high 76 points in a 76–42 win over the Mustangs. The Friars outshot Jefferson 49.1% to 43.6% and dominated the glass with a +16 rebounding margin.

Jeremiah Williams led all scorers with 26 points, while Jagan Thomas powered his way to a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double. Williams' first bucket of the night also marked his 1,000th career point in the Black & White.

Game 2 vs. Wagner
Friday morning, the Friars looked poised to move to 2–0 after taking a 27–17 halftime lead. However, a cold second half combined with Wagner's 14 free-throw attempts — compared to Bishop Lynch's zero — swung the game toward the Thunderbirds in a 42–38 defeat.

Game 3 vs. O'Connor
Bishop Lynch faced another challenge Friday afternoon against an O'Connor team with a significant size advantage. The Friars led 34–28 at halftime but trailed 47–42 entering the fourth. They battled back and made it a tight finish but ultimately fell 59–57.

Game 4 vs. Davenport
Saturday brought new energy, and the Friars responded. Bishop Lynch controlled the game wire-to-wire in a 56–39 win over Davenport. Kemp Dunsavage, newly inserted into the starting lineup, delivered a breakout performance with a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds.

Game 5 vs. South San
The Friars closed the tournament in dominant fashion, rolling past host South San 63–31. Thomas led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Luke Nimmo added 11 points and two assists, including a 2-for-2 mark from beyond the arc.
