Bernabe, Bartkoski Lead Bishop Lynch to 6-0 Rout of Prestonwood

PLANO, Texas — After a four-game skid, the Bishop Lynch men's soccer team traveled to Plano and channeled its frustration on Prestonwood Christian Academy with a 6-0 victory Tuesday night. Moises Bernabe and Nikolas Bartkoski each scored twice to lead the Friars to the road win.

Three of the Friars' four consecutive losses were closely contested, including two decided by penalty kicks and one by a 3-2 score. Knowing the importance of this district matchup, Bishop Lynch came out aggressively and was determined not to let the game at Lions Stadium be decided in penalty kicks.

The Friars quickly broke the scoreless tie when Geovany Flores made a strong run and delivered a cross to the back post, where Bernabe easily finished to put Bishop Lynch ahead 1-0. Later in the first half, Bartkoski doubled the lead with a powerful strike from 25 yards out.

Bishop Lynch maintained its momentum into halftime, thanks in part to goalkeeper Luke Hildenbrand, who made a diving save late in the half to keep the Lions scoreless.

The second half featured two standout individual efforts. Aziel Moreno extended the lead to 3-0 with a one-time volley off a clearance, blasting a shot from 20 yards out past the keeper at the near post. Lucas Martinez followed with an impressive solo run, weaving past four Prestonwood defenders before placing a shot into the upper 90 to make it 4-0.

Bernabe and Bartkoski each added another goal with assists from DeSmeth and Flores, sealing the Friars' dominant 6-0 victory.

NEXT UP:
Bishop Lynch will close out the regular season at home against Legacy Christian Academy tomorrow, February 12. The match kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and will also serve as the team's annual Senior Night.
