Bishop Lynch Season Ends in Penalty Kicks at TAPPS Semifinals

ROUND ROCK, Texas — After 100 minutes of evenly matched soccer, the TAPPS semifinal between Bishop Lynch and Ursuline Academy came down to penalty kicks. Even then, it wasn't decided quickly, as the shootout extended to eight kickers. In the end, the Friars fell 5-4 in a thrilling contest between two of the state's best teams. 

Bishop Lynch came out aggressive, setting the tone early when Serenity Collins fired a shot off the post in the opening minutes. Controlling the pace throughout the first half, the Friars eventually broke through when Ellis Kuntz connected with Madison Murphy in the box. Murphy met the ball in midair and delivered a perfectly placed strike—one of the team's most impressive goals of the season—giving Bishop Lynch a 1-0 lead.  

Ursuline responded before halftime, tying the match at 1-1 in what remained a tightly contested battle. After two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods, the match went to penalty kicks, where the Bears edged out the Friars to advance to the state championship.

While the season ended in heartbreaking fashion, the 2024-25 Bishop Lynch women's soccer team showcased resilience and determination all year. A special thank you to the Class of 2025, which leaves behind a legacy of excellence which included three state tournament appearances and 55 total wins.

The Bishop Lynch Athletic Department and women's soccer program thank Friar Nation for its unrivaled support throughout the season.
