Friars Flex in District Debut, Roll Past Prestonwood

PLANO — The Bishop Lynch men's basketball team wasted little time carrying its momentum into district play. Riding a five-game winning streak into Tuesday night, the Friars made it six straight with a 73-52 victory over Prestonwood Christian Academy inside the PCA Athletic Complex.

Jagan Thomas was dominant on both ends of the floor, posting a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. The junior forward was equally disruptive defensively, recording a career-high eight steals in a complete all-around performance.

The opening quarter didn't go according to plan for the Friars, as Prestonwood jumped out to a 15-4 lead with just over a minute remaining in the first. Bishop Lynch responded late, closing the quarter on a 6-2 run, but still trailed 17-10 after eight minutes.

Looking for a spark, the Friars turned to Tade Akinlawon, and the senior delivered. Coming off the bench, Akinlawon injected energy and physicality, scoring five points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out one assist in the second quarter alone. His impact helped Bishop Lynch erase an 11-point deficit and take a 31–26 lead into halftime.

The Friars pulled away after the break as the offense found its rhythm and the defense tightened up. Bishop Lynch shot 17-of-31 (55%) from the field in the second half, compared to 9-of-22 (41%) for Prestonwood. Thomas and Jeremiah Williams combined for 30 of their 42 points in the final two quarters, allowing the Friars to turn a tight contest into a 21-point win.
