WACO — The Bishop Lynch cross country teams wrapped up their seasons Monday at the TAPPS 6A State Championship Meet at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The women finished ninth overall, their highest state meet finish in a decade, while the men placed 12th.
The Friars also earned two individual medalist finishes, marking the program's first time with both runners represented among the top finishers since 2015. Harman Pope led the men with a fifth-place finish, while Emme Driscoll paced the women with a sixth-place finish.
"Monday in Waco was a testament to the kids' perseverance," head coach Stuart Kantor said. "It was rare this year that we went into a regular-season meet with a full squad, whether due to injuries, SAT testing, or other commitments. We finally got fully healthy heading into the postseason. We had great senior leadership, but we also have a lot of young talent that will hopefully sustain us and continue to build the program in the future."
Pope led the men's team with a 5K time of 16:53.6, securing a top-five finish against the state's top competition. Baxter Givens followed in 69th place with a time of 20:03.5. Pierce Oxford finished 87th, followed by Carter Fimmano in 94th and Landry Rose in 99th. Jack Baker rounded out the Friars' lineup with a 116th-place finish.
Driscoll turned in one of the best races of her career, completing the two-mile course in 12:15.9 to finish sixth overall. Aubrey Parker was next for the Friars, placing 48th in 13:45.8. Bishop Lynch also placed five more runners inside the top 100, with Lauren Robert finishing 64th, Bailey Guinnee 80th, Natalia Vega 83rd, Hailey Hensley 84th, and Elliott Guinnee 95th.
