DALLAS — Bishop Lynch closed its 2026 football season Friday night at Roffino Stadium, falling just short in a 34-33 heartbreaker against Trinity Christian Academy.
The Friars built a 21-6 halftime lead behind an unforgettable first-half performance from Nick Payne, who found the end zone in not one but three different ways. Payne returned a punt for a touchdown, hauled in a receiving score, and threw a touchdown pass to MJ Haggan Jr. as time expired in the first half.
Payne finished with eight receptions for 105 yards, while Haggan accounted for 192 passing yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-30 passing. He also added 74 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Lance Tinio provided another big performance on the ground, rushing for 100 yards to record his first 100-yard game of the season. Jeremiya Manning added two receptions for 19 yards, including a touchdown.
Alex Finley led the Friars with 12 tackles, including three tackles for loss, while Hayden Bonds added 10 tackles and a fumble recovery from his safety position.
Nick Payne contributed eight tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup. Jake Blank finished with five tackles to go along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery, while Jeremiyah Manning added an interception.
Bishop Lynch finishes the season at 3-7, closing a year defined by the commitment and dedication of its student-athletes. The program extends its sincere gratitude to the senior class for its loyalty, leadership, and contributions to Friar Football. Their commitment to the program and the Bishop Lynch community will leave a lasting impact.
Postseason awards and honors will be announced following the TAPPS state championship.
