Second-Half Surge Secures Senior Night Win, No. 2 Seed

DALLAS — Powered by a dominant second half, the Bishop Lynch women's basketball team defeated John Paul II 54-30 on Senior Night in the Competition Gym on Tuesday night. The Friars outscored the Cardinals 33-16 after halftime to pull away and clinch the No. 2 seed in District 2-6A.

While Bishop Lynch controlled the tempo from the opening tip, the separation came in the final two quarters. Led by Avery Billotte and Harper Alcantar, the Friars knocked down five three-pointers in the second half. Billotte and Alcantar each connected on two, while Abby Galvan added another to fuel the surge.

Billotte finished with a team-high 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Fre Vowels, playing in her final regular-season home game in the Black & White, added 10 points, four assists, and four steals. Senior Kate Webb contributed seven points and seven rebounds in a strong all-around performance.

Eleanor Prosser also reached double figures, helping anchor a balanced offensive attack as the Friars closed the regular season in commanding fashion.

POSTGAME NOTES
  • Dating back to the 2006-07 season, Bishop Lynch holds a 34-11 all-time record against John Paul II and has won four of the last six meetings.
  • Bishop Lynch has now won 20 or more games in 11 consecutive seasons, including 43 of Andy Zihlman's 46 seasons as head coach. The three non-20-win seasons produced 19, 19, and 18 wins.
  • The Friars' starting lineup featured Harper Alcantar, Avery Billotte, Fre Vowels, Eleanor Prosser, and Kate Webb.
NEXT UP
Bishop Lynch will host Parish Episcopal in the Area Round of the TAPPS 6A Playoffs on Tuesday, February 17, in the Competition Gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
This will be the second meeting between the teams this season. The Friars defeated Parish 50-23 on December 2 in the Competition Gym.
