Murphy’s Hat Trick Propels Friars to State Tournament

DALLAS — Madison Murphy recorded her second hat trick in four games to lead Bishop Lynch to a 4-0 victory over Legacy Christian Academy on Thursday night at Roffino Stadium in the TAPPS Regional Final, sending the Friars to the TAPPS State Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.

Bishop Lynch dominated the match from start to finish, controlling 56% of possession, outpassing the Eagles 259-199, and outshooting them 29-2. Murphy netted her 16th, 17th, and 18th goals of the season, while Ana Julia Kessler added her fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Bishop Lynch entered the regional final with confidence after defeating Legacy Christian twice during the regular season (6-0 on Jan. 8 and 2-1 on Feb. 11) and scoring a season-high nine goals in the area round.

Despite heavy pressure early, neither side found the net in the opening 20 minutes. Murphy broke the deadlock midway through the first half with a stunning strike from 28 yards out, blasting a shot just under the crossbar and over the goalkeeper's reach to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, the advantage doubled. After earning a corner kick, Van Loggerenberg delivered a perfectly placed ball into the box that Murphy headed home to make it 2-0.

Moments before halftime, Kat Williamson made an exceptional run from her left back position and drew a penalty inside the box. Murphy calmly converted from the spot, completing a first-half hat trick and sending the Friars into the break with a 3-0 lead.

The Friars continued their dominance in the second half, outshooting the Eagles 12-2. The Legacy goalkeeper recorded eight saves to keep the scoreline from growing further.

Kessler added the final goal after forcing a turnover, dribbling into space, and finishing confidently to make it 4-0 with just under 20 minutes remaining.
