Game Recap: Football |

Friars outscored by unbeaten Cornerstone Christian

Despite another 400-yard effort from the Friar offense, Bishop Lynch fell short of a fourth consecutive win Friday, outgunned 50-35 by a tough Cornerstone Christian team at Roffino Stadium.

Darries Boyd continued his outstanding season with his second 200-yard game of the year, finishing with 218 yards and three scores and the Friars (3-2) totaled 383 yards on the ground while averaging eight yards a carry.

The passing game was unable to hold up its end, accounting for just 15 yards while turning the ball over twice. Meanwhile, Cornerstone (5-0) got 404 total yards (213 passing, 191 rushing) and five touchdowns from its quarterback, Lucas Coley.

Coley set the pace for the evening, scoring from 60 yards on the first play from scrimmage. He would also score on runs of 24 and seven yards while throwing TD passes of 61 and 28 yards. Boyd scored from distances of 34, 30, and six yards.

After a low scoring first period that saw the Warriors lead 7-0, the two teams combined for 36 points in the second frame as Cornerstone took a 29-14 lead into intermission. It was 36-21 after three quarters and the teams each scored two times in the fourth.

In addition to Boyd's three scores, Isaiah Schmidtke (8 carries, 66 yards) had an 8-yard touchdown, while quarterback Michael Light scored from four yards. Logan Monroe made his only carry count, romping 49 yards to boost the team's rushing performance.

Light was able to complete just three of his 17 pass attempts, with his longest completion of nine yards coming in the final minute of the contest.
Defensively, Monroe led the way with 14 tackles (7 solo), with Justin Bell also in double digits with 10 (3 solo). Monroe added 1.5 tackles for loss. Dillon Moncier had five tackles and an interception, and Ayden Howard had three tackles and a sack. Blain Ritter booted four punts with a long of 45 and one inside the opponents' 20.

The Friars round out the non-district schedule Friday in Fort Worth against top-ranked and unbeaten Nolan Catholic (5-0). The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 pm.
