FORT WORTH — Bishop Lynch wrapped up the non-district portion of its schedule Friday, falling 37-6 at the hands of the top-ranked Nolan Catholic Vikings.
The Friars (3-3) stayed close, trailing just 11-6 at the break, but the Vikings (6-0) added 13 in the third quarter and 13 more in the final frame to run away with the win.
Darries Boyd rushed for 118 yards, giving the senior 957 yards in six games. The Friars totaled just 198 yards of offense, 166 of which came on the ground. Bishop Lynch found it difficult yet again to generate offense through the air, completing just 5-of-18 passes for 32 yards with two interceptions.
The Friars' lone score, however, came through the air, as
Michael Light connected with
Buzz Jerde on a six-yard pass to cap a 17-play drive lasting more than eight minutes. The Vikings' balanced attack totaled 417 yards with 228 through the air and 189 on the ground.
Despite the loss, several players turned in commendable efforts, including senior
Caleb Williams, who finished with 11 tackles (five for loss), two sacks and a blocked kick. Williams leads the team with 6.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.
Logan Monroe posted 11 tackles,
Justin Bell had eight tackles (two for loss) and a sack, and Jerde had five tackles and a sack.
Blain Ritter was solid punting the ball, averaging 41 yards per kick with two kicks inside the 20 and a long of 56.
The Friars are off this week and begin district play Friday, Oct. 18 at home against Parish Episcopal. The homecoming game is scheduled to kickoff from Roffino Stadium at 7:00 pm.Â
