A young Bishop Lynch team checked several boxes during Tuesday's district match at rival Ursuline. Win a district road game? Check. Come from behind? Check. Move up in the standings? Check.
The Lady Friars (16-11, 2-3) dropped the opening set of Tuesday's rowdy contest before storming back to take three straight sets and leave with a win of 15-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-24.
The freshman trio of
Leah Oyewole (14),
Avery Kinzer (8), and
Lyric Berry (6) combined for 28 of the Lady Friars' 45 kills and
Alex Galicia notched 22 assists. Berry – along with
Emily Castleman – each had three blocks, while freshman
Ashlyn Zilliken had two blocks.
Elizabeth Edwards totaled 18 assists while
Charlotte Hain (19 digs),
Sydney Broussard (15 digs), and
Jenny Canavan (12 digs) bolstered the defense. Zilliken added four kills and
Liberty Buckholt had three.
Tuesday's win makes Thursday's game even bigger as the Lady Friars begin the second round of district play with a home game against John Paul II (15-14-1, 3-2), who is currently tied for second with Prestonwood Christian. The Cardinals swept Bishop Lynch back on Sept. 17 in the district opener, in a match decided by eight total points (25-23, 25-21, 25-23).
Thursday's match is a WHITE OUT for the Friar fans, with the varsity contest scheduled to begin at around 6:00 pm.
