PLANO – The dust has settled and after consecutive close losses in Plano, Bishop Lynch will have to hit the road when the TAPPS Division I playoffs begin this week. The regular season ended with the Friars falling to John Paul II, 21-13.
Bishop Lynch (4-6, 1-3) lost three fumbles and struggled to gain consistent yardage with the ball, finishing with just 251 yards with only 45 coming via the passing game.
Michael Light returned after missing two games due to injury, passing for 45 yards and rushing for 58.
Darries Boyd remained consistently productive, gaining 145 yards on 28 carries with both Friar touchdowns. Boyd enters the postseason with 1,562 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Cardinals (7-3, 2-2) amassed 439 yards, with Grayson James passing for 320, Grant Robinson rushing for 109, and a pair of 100-yard receivers in Jerand Bradley (130) and Myles Parker (104).
Justin Bell had a team-high 11 tackles,
Austin Bell had six tackles and forced a pair of fumbles,
Cort Doyle finished with five tackles and a fumble recovery, and
Isaiah Schmidtke had five tackles, a forced fumble, and blocked a field goal.
The Friars travel to Fort Worth on Friday to open the TAPPS Division I playoffs against All Saints. Kickoff from McNair Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
