Game Recap: Football |

Boyd's third 200-yard game not enough to best Prestonwood

PLANO — Despite Darries Boyd's third 200-yard rushing game of the year and holding Prestonwood to just 237 total yards, Bishop Lynch was still unable to get a victory in Plano to secure the second seed in the district.

Instead, they'll head into Friday's regular season finale at John Paul II with the winner clinching third place following the Friars' 26-10 loss at Prestonwood. The Friars can earn a neutral site game in the first round with a third place finish but will have to travel – most likely to Midland – if they finish fourth.

Boyd carried the ball 31 times for 216 yards, putting him over 1,400 yards for the season, but three second-half turnovers by the Friars (4-5, 1-2) erased their 10-7 halftime lead and allowed the Lions (7-2, 2-1) to score three times in the second half.

The Friars picked up 261 yards on the ground but just 13 yards through the air on 13 attempts. Blain Ritter lost a controversial fumble and tossed a pair of interceptions. Randell Holmes led the Lions with 97 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Fabian Gutierrez made a 27-yard field goal for the first points of the game and TJ Lobmeyer finished with eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. Buzz Jerde combined with Lobmeyer on a sack and Ayden Howard had the last of the Friars' three QB takedowns. Cort Doyle led the Friars with 11 stops while Justin Bell and Logan Monroe each had eight tackles. Howard also scored the Friars' only touchdown, with his second rushing touchdown in as many weeks.

Bishop Lynch will head to John Paul II on Friday for a 7:00 pm kickoff. The game can be streamed live via the NFHS Network: http://bit.ly/nfhsfriars.
