DALLAS — When it comes to certainties, there are death, taxes, and Bishop Lynch in the state volleyball championships. Yes, even as the fifth and final playoff seed from their district, the Lady Friars (21-14) are in the Final Four a 12
th straight year.
Bishop Lynch topped another district rival Saturday, dropping Ursuline Academy (26-15) in four sets for a regional playoff win at Dallas Baptist University. The Lady Friars will meet Prestonwood Christian – the defending 6A state champions – in Friday's semifinals, scheduled for 7:30 pm at University High School in Waco. Prestonwood eliminated Bishop Lynch in the Final Four a year ago on its way to the state title.
The Lady Friars opened Saturday's match with a 25-18 opening set win but fell flat in the second as Ursuline tied the match with a 25-12 advantage. Bishop Lynch outlasted the Bears in the third (30-28) and fourth (26-24) to punch a ticket to Waco.
Leah Oyewole had a team-high 10 kills,
Lyric Berry had eight to go with seven blocks, and
Katie Blomberg added six kills.
Alex Galicia (17) and
Elizabeth Edwards (12) led in assists, while
Charlotte Hain (14) and Galicia (12) led in digs.
Emma Cuneo served up three aces.
