FORT WORTH — The Friars continue to build momentum with their third consecutive win, the latest coming with a shutout by the defense as Bishop Lynch blanked O.D. Wyatt, 27-0, at Herman Clark Stadium on Thursday night.
Bishop Lynch (3-1) surrendered just 115 total yards, five rushing yards on 30 attempts, shut down nine of Wyatt's 11 third down attempts, and recorded three sacks. Wyatt (0-4) remained winless while allowing the Friars to rush for 290 yards during the contest.
Darries Boyd piled up 148 yards on just 11 carries, scoring once on the ground and one through the air.
Isaiah Schmidtke added 73 yards and a touchdown, and
Luc Payseur carried four times for 45 yards.
It took a little time for the offense to come around, scoring just once in the first half with a pair of hopeful drives ending on downs. With 3:30 to go in the first half, Boyd broke through the Wyatt defense for a 28-yard touchdown on a screen pass from
Michael Light (138 yards, 2 TDs).
The Friars came out of the half clicking on all cylinders, scoring on the first snap, a 59-yard scamper by Boyd for a 13-0 lead. Schmidtke would score from 42 yards away midway through the third to make it 20-0. Early in the fourth, Light hooked up with
Anthony DiBiase on a 56-yard catch and run for the final tally.
Justin Bell and
Logan Monroe each had eight tackles to lead the defense.
Caleb Williams had five stops, two for loss.
Ayden Howard had three tackles for loss and a sack while Williams teamed with
Buzz Jerde on another and
Beau Renteria and
John Gibson combined for a sack late in the fourth.
Caleb Ajakaiye recovered a Wyatt fumble and
Austin Bell broke up three passes while finishing with four tackles including 1.5 for loss. The Friars totaled 12 tackles for loss in the contest.
Next up for the Friars is a home date Friday against the independent private school, Cornerstone Christian, out of San Antonio, who defeated Bishop Dunne, 26-23, on Friday.
The game will kick off from Roffino Stadium at 7:00 PM.
