DALLAS – Bishop Lynch (7-5, 3-2) fell at home for the first time this year to Parish Episcopal (8-2, 4-2) in a five-set thriller last night, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 27-29, 12-25.Â
After winning the first set with some ease 25-17, the Friars fell in the second set 25-23. Parish and Bishop Lynch went back and forth from then on out in what was easily the most exciting game of the year.Â
The Friars won the third set 25-20 and had their eyes on closing out the game in the fourth. The Panthers wouldn't go away though as they fought off multiple game points and ended up winning the fourth set 29-27. In the fifth set, both the Friars and Panthers went on scoring runs, but Parish got the final punch in winning 15-12 to secure the 3-2 victory.
Led by
Lauryn Lambert's match-leading 24 kills, Bishop Lynch registered 70 kills, 115 digs, 11 blocks, and 10 aces on the night. Four Friars finished the night with at least 8 kills -
Katie Blomberg (16), Lambert (24),
Leah Oyewole (13) and
Ashlyn Zilliken (8). Blomberg hit the ball excellently as she got a .400 attack percentage.
Charlotte Hain led the Friars on defense with 35 digs, her season-high, and
Rachel Vlk was second on the team with 18. Setting up the Friar hitters all night were Vlk and
Cate Hatfield. They have become quite the setting duo this season.
