MIDLAND – Bishop Lynch volleyball traveled to Midland Christian to face off against the Mustangs and won in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20 and 26-24.
The Friars made the long bus ride to Midland for the first round of the TAPPS 6A playoffs after finishing the regular season with a 10-7 (6-4) record, which placed them third in TAPPS 6A-District 2. Midland Christian finished second in 6A-District 1 with a 12-4 (4-2) record.
The Friars came out a little sluggish in the first set, falling behind early 6-1, but then started to fire on all cylinders. With solid defense and great serving, the Friars took the crucial first set on the road. The second set has not been kind to the Friars this year, but they changed that in this game. The Friars took the second set 25-20. In the third set, BL came back from a 23-21 deficit to win the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
Lauryn Lambert and
Lyric Berry led the Friars' attack as they got 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Other Friars with kills were
Paloma Gonzalez (6),
Leah Oyewole (5) and
Katie Blomberg (3). Defensively,
Charlotte Hain had 19 digs, and
Lauryn Lambert had 13. Setting up the Friar hitters were
Cate Hatfield and
Rachel Vlk with 15 sets each.
Bishop Lynch will be advancing to the TAPPS 6A Regionals, and they will face off against district foe TCA on Saturday at 5:00 PM at John Paul II. The Friars and TCA split the season series 1-1 this year.
