Box Score DALLAS - Bishop Lynch hosted the defending TAPPS 6A state champions on Tuesday night and fell in straight sets 3-0.
In the first set, both the Friars and Liberty went back and forth. The game was tied up at 10 when, behind
Cate Hatfield serving, the Friars went on a seven-point run to give them a 17-10 advantage. The Friars would hold off Liberty to take a 24-21 lead, but after a BL timeout, Liberty would not only tie it up at 24 but take the first set 26-24.
It would start back and forth once again in the second set, but Liberty would do precisely what the Friars did in the first set and take a 17-10 lead before a BL timeout. This time BL was the team who would come back, scoring eight straight points to take an 18-17 lead. Later after a
Lyric Berry ace, the Friars were up 21-18. Unfortunately, with excellent defense at the net and timely hitting, the defending champs would finish the second set much like the first and take it 25-22.
Liberty would be too much for the Friars in the third set, winning 25-21 to seal the victory. Though the scoreboard will read a clean sweep for Liberty, the Friars had opportunities to win both the first and second set. This will provide Coach Jenkins the chance to teach the Friars how to close sets, not only with physical skill but with a mental edge.
This game also marked the first time all Bishop Lynch students could attend a sporting event since March of 2020. It was great to see the Friar Nation be loud and supportive in the stands.
