After slow start, Friars defeat Rockwall Heath for first home victory of the year

DALLAS - Bishop Lynch won their first game at home this season by defeating Rockwall Heath 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The Friars dropped the first set 28-26 in the most intense set of the evening. Both teams went back and forth, but the Hawks eventually got the critical point to capture the first set on the road.

In the second set, after a stern pep talk from Coach Jenkins, the Friars came out on fire, at one point leading 11-3. Lauryn Lambert would be a significant factor in the second set, getting four kills. BL would cruise to win the second set 25-8 in what might have been their best set all season.

The game was all tied up 1-1 going into the third set. Lyric Berry, Leah Oyewole and Lambert would be too much for the Hawks defense to handle in the third set, combining for 15 kills. The Friars would take the set 25-18 and a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the fourth and defining set, the Hawks wouldn't go home easily, and at one point, they took a 17-14 lead. The Friars dug deep and would end the game on an 11-4 run to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-1. Paloma Gonzalez had four kills in the fourth set and sealed the victory with a block.

Leaders for the Friars on the night:
Kills: Lauryn Lambert with 16
Digs: Delaney Moon with 13
Assists: Cate Hatfield with 31
Aces: Maddie Smotherman/Delaney Moon with 3
Blocks: Lyric Berry with 3

Next Up: The Friars continue their demanding non-district schedule by heading North to take on Denton Guyer this Thursday.

Sub Varsity Notes: All three teams would win their games against Rockwall Heath. The junior varsity won in straight sets 2-0, while the sophomore and freshman teams each won in thrilling three-set matches.
