DALLAS - Bishop Lynch (25-9, 4-3) lost in four competitive sets Thursday night to top-ranked Prestonwood Christian Academy (30-1, 7-0). The Lions aren't just the top-ranked 5A and others from the Dallas Morning News, they are ranked as the #15 team nationally by MaxPreps.
The Friars have shown that they can hang with Prestonwood. Earlier this season, BL went toÂ
five sets against Prestonwood, and last night they went to four. Prestonwood has only dropped 10 sets all year, and three of those belong to the Friars. Though the main goal isn't to just win sets against PCA, it is to win matches.
The game started shaky for BL, going down 8-3. But after a timeout, the Friars fought back and played almost perfectly the rest of the set. The Friars hit extremely well, getting 10 total kills with zero errors and an amazing team-hitting percentage of .435. With the strong offense, and limiting our errors to just a few, the Friars not only won the first set but won it handily 25-19.
Lauryn Lambert finished the first set with five kills.
The Friars and the crowd were rocking, but Prestonwood wasn't phased. Despite being down 1-0 on the road, they came back and hit an unreal .480 as a team in the second set. Marcaria Spears had seven of her game-high 20 kills in the second set. The Friars held their own, hitting .273 and led by
Leah Oyewole's three kills, but would drop the second set 25-19.
The third set was a back-and-forth affair. The lead changed four times in the final 10 points. Lambert got an ace to take the 22-21 lead, but PCA was able to fight back and got the final say in to take the set 25-23 and the lead 2-1.
Lyric Berry played her best set in the third with four kills and two blocks.
In the fourth set, the Friars fell into too deep of a hole to climb out of. At one point, BL was down 10-4. They would fight back and get within three points at 18-15 behind great play from Lambert, but Prestonwood's offense would be too much and they would take the set 25-20. Lambert had six kills in the fourth set and had a team-high 15 in the match.
Lambert recorded her ninth double-double of the year, finishing with 15 kills and 13 digs.
Leah Oyewole finished with double-digit kills (10) for the third time in five games.
