DALLAS - Bishop Lynch hosted Arlington Martin in a non-district matchup on Saturday and the Warriors defeated the Friars 3-2 in a back-and-forth matchup.
The Friars (25-10) put themselves in a hole when Arlington Martin (25-7) jumped out to a 2-0 set lead. The Warriors took the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-19. Missing
Lyric Berry really hurt the Friars in the first two sets because the Friars couldn't find their groove, hitting just .054 combined in the first two sets.
Paloma Gonzalez was the lone offensive difference maker in the first two sets, having eight kills on .385 hitting.
In the third set, the Friars started to finally play their game and get things going.
Lauryn Lambert came alive and had eight kills on .538 hitting in the third. She also had eight digs alone in the third to help BL get on the board with a 25-23 set victory.
The offense for the Friars continued to remain hot in the fourth set. As a team, BL had 18 kills and only five errors. Lambert again led the team in the fourth set with seven kills, with Gonzalez and
Leah Oyewole each having three. BL would take the close set 27-25 and force the game-deciding fifth set.
In the fifth set, BL had a 10-9 lead before Martin would pull away for a 15-11 set win. The Friars didn't play poorly in the fifth set, Martin just played great. BL didn't have a hitting error and hit .333 as a team, but Martin hit .478 as a team with 12 kills. Because the Warrior offense got hot at the right time, they were able to get the 3-2 victory over BL.
Lauryn Lambert had another spectacular game with a double-double of 22 kills and 27 digs, both season highs. The 15 kills by
Paloma Gonzalez is also a season-high for the junior. Freshman
Madison Pflum had a nice game filling in for
Lyric Berry as she finished with six blocks.
Next Up:
The Friars will get back to district play on Thursday when they hit the road and travel to Fort Worth to take on Nolan Catholic.
