DALLAS — The Bishop Lynch volleyball team battled Hockaday in a thrilling five-set matchup Thursday evening at Penson Athletic Center, but the Friars ultimately fell to the Daisies, 3-2, despite career-high double-doubles from Maia Raleigh and Camila Figueroa.
The match served as Bishop Lynch's final test before the start of district play next week. The Friars will open TAPPS 6A District 2 action at home against John Paul II on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Bishop Lynch 2, Hockaday 3 (23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 12-15)
Raleigh delivered a career performance from the setter position, recording a career-high 60 assists while adding 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Her previous career high was 46 assists. Raleigh also led the Friars with four aces.
Figueroa also reached a new career benchmark, recording a career-high 17 kills while leading the team with 19 digs and adding one block. The performance marked her third double-double of the season.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Love led the Friars offensively with 20 kills, marking the second time this season she has reached the 20-kill mark in a match. Love also finished with nine digs and one ace.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Hockaday came out as the aggressor on both sides of the net, using 16 kills and three blocks to take control early. The Friars battled back behind six kills and an ace from Love, along with eight digs from Figueroa, but the Daisies held on to take the opening set, 25-23.
SET 2 | The second set featured back-and-forth scoring early, with both teams looking to gain an important advantage. Behind strong offensive play from Love and Figueroa, Bishop Lynch began to pull away and evened the match with a 25-20 victory. The Black & White hit a match-best .306 as a team in the set, while Raleigh recorded 13 assists.
SET 3 | The Friars carried their momentum into the third set, leaning on their two leading offensive threats. Love and Figueroa combined for nine kills while hitting .350 as a duo. Bishop Lynch also found success at the service line, with Maddie Pope recording two aces and Raleigh adding another to help the Friars take the set, 25-22, and move within one set of the victory.
SET 4 | With their backs against the wall, the Daisies responded with a strong fourth set to force a decisive fifth. Hockaday hit .351 in the set and recorded four blocks, while Charlie Wells led the Friars with six kills and added a block. Despite the effort, Hockaday claimed the set 25-20 to even the match at 2-2.
SET 5 | After an Emory Mooney kill gave Bishop Lynch an early 1-0 lead, Hockaday answered with a 7-2 run. The Friars continued to fight, with Figueroa recording four kills during the final set to help cut the deficit to 14-12. The Daisies, however, closed out the match with a 15-12 fifth-set victory.

The Friars will have a week to prepare for TAPPS 6A District 2 play before opening district action at home against John Paul II on Thursday, Sept. 17. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Competition Gym.
