ALLEN - The Bishop Lynch volleyball team captured the challenge bracket championship at the 2022 Allen Texas Open over the weekend. The Friars finished the weekend going 5-2, including 4-0 on Saturday, to win the championship.
After losing to Wylie East on Friday, the Friars defeated the Lady Raiders in the championship match in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18.
Lauryn Lambert had a great championship game, having a game-high 13 kills. She finished the tournament with 69 kills, 48 digs, 12 assists and seven aces, which was good enough to be named to the All-Tournament team. This is back-to-back tournaments where a Friar was named to the all-tournament team.
Lyric Berry was named to the All-Tournament team in the Marcus Showcase.
Cate Hatfield joined the 1000 career assists club over the weekend. This is a significant individual milestone for Hatfield. She has been a great asset to the volleyball team for three years as a setter on varsity.
Another big bright spot for the Friars over the weekend was senior
Leah Oyewole. Oyewole was an All-State player her freshman year, and she looks more like that this year. In the seven games over the weekend, she had 47 kills (second on the team) and had a hitting percentage of .279.
The Friars have a home game tonight against Lancaster before traveling to Austin to compete in the state-wide Volleybalooza Tournament.
