DALLAS - Bishop Lynch (24-7, 3-1) swept Trinity Christian Academy (9-17, 1-3) last night 25-14, 25-19 and 25-16. This was the Friars' first district home game in the Competition Gym and they did not disappoint the home crowd.
It was a great sight to the Friar faithful to see
Lauryn Lambert get back onto the court as she missed all last week with an injury. She looked like she didn't miss a beat as she matched the game-high in kills with 10. Her counterpart
Lyric Berry and Taylor Clarke from TCA each had 10 kills as well.
Berry, coming off her best game of the season lastÂ
Thursday at John Paul IIÂ where she accumulated 24 points, continued her dominant play last night. She opened up the game with two quick kills and that set the mood for the Friars going forward. Lambert had six of her 10 kills in the first set as BL hit .333% on their way to an 11-point set win.
The second set was more of the same, with Bishop Lynch getting an early lead and not looking back. Even with TCA playing great at times, the Friars would just up their game and outpower TCA. Five Friars finished the second set with over two kills. Setters
Jessie Canavan and
Cate Hatfield weren't just setting up the hitters nicely, but they were getting aces and had a combined three in the second set to help BL get the 25-19 set win.
The final set was all about
Leah Oyewole, who last week had the number two kill in the state of Texas according toÂ
Hudl. The senior outside had five of her eight kills in the third set and gave the Friars the momentum to finish this match in three sets.
Jessie Canavan finished with her third double-double on the season, finishing with 14 assists and 10 digs.
Lyric Berry has been on another level since the Friars started district play. The senior is averaging 12 kills on a .287 hitting percentage and 4.5 blocks per match.
