Friars earn their 20th win of the season over talented Frisco Independence

DALLAS - Last Friday, Bishop Lynch hosted 19-win Frisco Independence and swept the Knights 3-0 to earn their 20th win of the season.

Going into this Friday night matchup, the Friars knew they had a test on their hands against Independence. The Knights had played a few similar teams as BL this season and did just as well or even better than the Friars this year.

The first set proved to be the most critical of the match. The Friars trailed most of the set, and after fighting back, took the set 28-26. This set win not only deflated the Knights but gave the Friars an amplitude of energy and confidence going forward in the match. Bishop Lynch's offense was spread out as six Friars had at least one kill in the set. Lauryn Lambert and Lyric Berry combined for seven of BL's 13 kills in the first.

After the very competitive first set, the Friars were able to take care of business with relative ease in the second and third sets. The offense came together in those two sets, as BL hit an outstanding .390% with only four hitting errors. Lambert would lead the Friars with 11 kills with Berry right behind at nine. Both Leah Oyewole and Paloma Gonzalez each finished with five.

Cate Hatfield continues her great season, finishing with a team-high 16 assists while also contributing great defensive play with five digs. Jessie Canavan earned her second double-double on the season with 12 assists and 10 digs. Canavan is one of three BL players to get a double-double this season, Lambert has five and Hatfield has one.

Bishop Lynch continues their non-district schedule against Lake Highlands tonight as the Friars host the Wildcats in the Competition Gym tonight at 6:30.
