Bishop Lynch High School (TAPPS 1-District 1) will host its third straight home game tonight against Parish Episcopal School (TAPPS 1-District 1), at 7:00 p.m. in Roffino Stadium. This game marks a fresh start as it is the district opener for both teams. The Friars (1-5, 0-0) are coming off their closest defeat of the season with a 32-27 defeat to Midland Christian last Friday. The Panthers (2-3, 0-0) are coming off a big 38-23 victory over China Springs last Friday.
Tonight's game is also senior night as Bishop Lynch Athletics will honor the seniors of football, band, brigade, and cheer before the game.
History:
Bishop Lynch and Parish Episcopal have met 11 times on the gridiron. The Friars won the first three from 2016-2017 but the Panthers have won the last eight.
Players to Watch:
Parish Episcopal:
#7 Sawyer Anderson: The junior quarterback announced his verbal commitment to Purdue University and it is easy to see why the Boilermakers want him. He has thrown for 1,335 yards this season and 12 touchdowns. Anderson has completed 64% of his passes but has also thrown six interceptions against some great competition.
#28 Guy Stern: Stern is a junior with plenty of experience on the varsity level. He leads the Panthers in tackles with 43 from his outside linebacker/rover position. He can fly over the field as he has recorded an interception and a blocked field goal this year.
Bishop Lynch:
Offensive Line: The BL offensive line has been the core of the Friars' offensive success. If they can open up holes and give
Legend Howell time to dissect the defense, look for the team in black and white to put up some points.
#10
Colton Monroe: The senior captain has been a steady force for the Friars in the middle of the field this season. He currently leads the team in tackles with 51 and will need to be all over the field tonight to slow down the Panthers' high-octane offense.
Keys to the Game:
Parish Episcopal: Don't let the losing record fool you; this Parish team is nearly as talented as their previous state championship teams. Though they have only scored 20.6 points per game this year, they have faced a grueling schedule. Their current opponent record is 22-7. Look for the Panthers to be a little more run-heavy than they have been in the past with their star running back Maddux Reid who is averaging 5.6 yards per rush.
Bishop Lynch: The defense played one of their best games all season last week and will look to build off of that. The offense needs to polish some things up as they have shown a tendency to turn the ball over and drop crucial passes over the past few games. If the Friars can play to their ability in all three phases of the game, BL could very well upset Parish.
