DESOTO, TX -- The women's basketball season started over the weekend at the Fran Harris Tip Off played at Desoto High School. The Friars were matched up against Kennedale High School and BL took care of business with a 53-36 victory.
Despite being short-handed, the ladies took a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The team had four players score in double-digits, led by senior
Alice Thackston who scored 16 points in her first career varsity game wearing the black and white.
Iyana Axson,
Londyn Perry, and
Fre Vowels all had great games shooting as the three combined to score 34 points on 13-28 (46.4%) shooting from the field and 3-4 (75%) from deep.
Perry, along with sophomore
Layla Mayer, led the team in rebounds with six, and Vowels led the team in assists with three.
Defensively, the Friars held Kennedale to just 27.3% shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers. With their speed, BL turned those 22 turnovers into 26 points.

The Friars have their home opener tonight against Allen. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Competition Gym.
