ALLEN, TX -- The Friars traveled north last night to play in a tri-match against Plano Senior High and Allen High School. It was a tale of two matches as Bishop Lynch swept Plano 3-0 in their first match but then dropped their second match 3-0 to Allen.

Riley Seitz led the Friars against the Wildcats from Plano in their first game. The senior middle led the team with seven kills on a .462 hitting percentage. She also added offense with her serve, having a game-high five aces. Her twin sister, Avery, added seven kills and two digs.

Defensively, the Friars were sound across the court, having a season-high eight blocks with sound serve receive. For the first time this season, BL committed zero serve receive errors on 45 attempts throughout the match. Maddie Smotherman led the team in digs with 14, bringing her total to 100 for the season.

Senior outside Paloma Gonzalez returned to the lineup after missing the first six games of the season. Sheshook off the rust and finished the Plano game with five kills with a hitting percentage of .333.

In the Allen match, the script flipped for the Friars. They came out hot and held a 17-12 first-set lead, but the Eagles stormed back and took the first set 25-21 in front of their home crowd. Allen took the following two sets 25-17 both times to earn their fifth win of the season.

Avery Seitz led the team in kills for the Friars in the second match with seven total while Aven Crosby got five. Both Maddie Gappelberg (11) and Cate Hatfield (10) had double-digit assists as the seniors combined for 21 total.

Riley Seitz continued to be a serving threat as she got another five aces in the Allen match. Delaney Moon led the team in digs with 11 while Smotherman had ten.

SUB VARSITY:
Junior Varsity 1: The JV1 team went undefeated last night, defeating both Plano and Allen 2-0. They are now 4-0 on the season.
Junior Varsity 2: The JV2 team lost to Plano Clark last night 2-0. They are now 2-1 on the season.
Freshmen: The freshmen team did not play last night. They are 2-0 on the season.

NEXT UP:
The Friars will travel back to Allen High School to participate in the Annual Allen Tournament. The tournament will be on August 18 and 19. BL will play Prosper Rock Hill, Frisco Centennial and Wylie East on Friday starting at 9:00 am.
