FORT WORTH, TX -- For the first time this season, the Friars were on the road for district match-up. Bishop Lynch (16-12, 2-1) traveled to Cowtown and defeated Nolan Catholic (17-10, 1-3) 3-1 in Hartnett Arena last night.
The Friars outhit the Lady Vikings .244 to .061 on their way to victory. BL had 22 more kills, 21 more assists, and two more aces than Nolan. Twin sisters Avery and
Riley Seitz combined for 25 kills while
Maddie Smotherman and
Delaney Moon combined for 33 digs.
Smotherman's first dig in the match marked the 1,200 of her career. Congratulations to the junior on reaching this great milestone.
This victory for Bishop Lynch bumped their winning streak over Nolan Catholic to 26 straight matches, dating back to 2007.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bishop Lynch came into this match fully expecting to take care of business. This is one of the best teams we have seen from the Vikings in the past few years, but the Friars were confident. That confidence shrunk just a bit as the home team came out in the first set and made a statement, winning 25-21. This is just the second set Nolan has taken from Bishop Lynch since 2012.
After dropping the first set, the Friars had to refocus. This reset paid off as BL not only took the second set but dominated it to the tune of 25-10. Both Seitz twins recorded three kills and as a team, the Friars had 18 digs.
The third set was more competitive but the Friars took a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win. The Friars had a match-high 17 kills in the third set, led by
Avery Seitz who had five.
We saw more of the same in the fourth set as the Friars earned the match victory with a 25-14 win.
Riley Seitz had six of her 13 kills in the third set and
Delaney Moon had five of her 14 digs.
