Williams, Day lead Friars to impressive victory in season opener

DUNCANVILLE, TX -- The Bishop Lynch men's basketball team opened its season with a 71-51 victory over Denton Ryan this past weekend in the Jimmy Gales Showcase. This marks the fourth straight season the Friars have opened with a win.

Jeremiah Williams and Nathan Day led the team, combining to score 52 of the Friars' 71 points on 65.4% shooting. Williams, an honorable mention All-District nominee last season, doubled his previous career high with 32 points. Day, an honorable mention All-State nominee last season, contributed 20 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

"We were really excited for these boys to get their first win of the season because we know how hard they have all worked up to this point," Head Coach Kyle May said.

"Jeremiah and Nathan gave us some awesome individual scoring performances Saturday, but knowing our two captains, they would be the first to give all the credit to their teammates. That's just the selfless nature of both of those guys. We have a really tough first third of the season, and we hope to see everyone at our first home game against Carter next Tuesday."
