Volleyball sweeps Parish, earning tenth win of the season

DALLAS, TX -- The Bishop Lynch volleyball team wrapped up its non-district play with a dominant 3-0 sweep over former district foe Parish Episcopal on Tuesday night. The Friars finish non-district play with a 10-8 overall record and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 mark.

Things are starting to click for Bishop Lynch at the right time as the team rides a season-high three-match winning streak which includes back-to-back sweeps.

Highlights
  • Senior Emma Poff tied her career-high with five aces in the win. She has recorded 13 aces over the last three matches and currently leads the team with 30 on the season. 
  • Senior Maddie Smotherman had 17 digs last night, marking the 13th time in 18 matches this season that she's reached double-digits in digs.
  • After making her varsity debut in the previous match, Camila Figueroa sealed last night's victory with the first match-winning kill of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | The underclassmen made an early impact in the first set as sophomores Charlie Wells and Kylie Love each collected four kills. The duo hit a combined .400, securing a 25-21 set win for the Friars. Poff also contributed three aces, assists, and digs, helping the Friars fend off the Panthers. 

SET 2 | Wells continued her strong performance with three more kills in the second set. Bishop Lynch's powerful serving made the difference. The team tallied seven aces with a 2.48 serve rating and cruised to a 25-12 victory.

SET 3 | Team leader in kills, Ava Wennerstrom, stepped up in the final set, delivering four kills on a .444 hitting percentage to help close out the match 25-10. The Friars' defense shined with a match-high 22 digs. Maia Raleigh contributed six digs and six assists in the set.

SUB-VARSITY:
  • The Junior Varsity 1 team extended their winning streak to four matches after defeating Parish Episcopal 2-0 to improve their record to 6-3.
  • The Junior Varsity 2 team played in the most exciting match of the evening, defeating Plano 2-1 in the Legacy Gym. 
NEXT UP:
Bishop Lynch opens district play against the defending state champions and nationally ranked Prestonwood Christian. The match is set for tomorrow, September 26, at 6:00 p.m. CT in the Competition Gym.
