DALLAS, TX --
Nathan Day's clutch three-pointer with 30 seconds left lifted Bishop Lynch to a 45-42 victory over Prestonwood Christian Academy in their TAPPS 6A-District 2 opener Saturday night. For the second consecutive season, the Friars began district play with a win over the Lions.
The Friars nearly led wire-to-wire, but the Lions mounted a late comeback, taking a 41-40 lead on a three-pointer with one minute remaining.
Jeremiah Williams responded with a strong drive to the basket, drawing a foul and heading to the free-throw line. Williams made the first free throw to tie the game at 41 but missed the second. Fortunately,
Ishmael Muhammad came up with a crucial offensive rebound, giving the Friars another possession. That extra chance led to Day's game-winning three-pointer.
Day led Bishop Lynch with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Williams added 10 points, while Muhammad made his presence felt with seven points and six rebounds.
