Bishop Lynch Falls 35-28 in Overtime to Prestonwood

| By:
PLANO – Bishop Lynch's (2-3, 0-1) comeback attempt fell short in overtime, as the Friars dropped a 35-28 heartbreaker to Prestonwood Christian (2-2, 2-0) on Friday night at Lions Stadium.

The Friars' offense posted its second-highest yardage total of the season with 418 yards. Quarterback Matias Leon threw for a career-high 345 yards and three touchdowns. Zack Williams delivered another breakout performance, hauling in six receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Nick Payne added eight catches for 134 yards. Lance Tinio contributed 40 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Defensively, the Friars turned in one of their most complete performances in recent years, keeping the team in the game with multiple fourth-down stops and key tackles in crucial moments. Linebackers Willy Patterson and Alex Finley led the charge, each recording 11 tackles and helping limit the Lions to just 51 rushing yards—an average of only 1.3 yards per carry.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Friar offense opened the game with a methodical 13-play drive that consumed more than half of the first quarter. However, the possession stalled in the red zone, and Bishop Lynch's field goal attempt was blocked. Prestonwood responded with a long drive of its own, but the Friar defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs to end the quarter tied 0-0.

The Lions struck twice in the second quarter to build a 14-0 lead before the Friars broke through. Leon found Williams over the middle, who slipped a defender and sprinted 80 yards to the end zone to cut the deficit to 14-7 with two minutes left in the half. The score remained the same at the break.

Continuing their physical play, the Friars opened the second half with another defensive stand, forcing a turnover on downs that set up Williams' second touchdown of the night—a five-yard strike from Leon to even the score at 14-14. Prestonwood regained the lead, 21-14, but Bishop Lynch answered again with a powerful two-yard touchdown run from Tinio to tie the game at 21-21 entering the fourth quarter.

After the Lions went up 28-21, the Friars once again responded—this time on a jet sweep pass to Ishmael Muhammad, who took it in from two yards out to make it 28-28. The defense came up big one more time with a crucial stop inside two minutes, sending the game to overtime tied at 28-all.

In overtime, the Friars offense took the field first. Leon connected with Williams on a wheel route to set up first-and-goal from the two-yard line, but the Lions' defense held firm. Prestonwood then needed any score to win—and sealed the game with a touchdown on their possession of overtime.
