Friars' Cinderella Run Ends in the State Finals

ROBINSON, Texas — Seniors Maia Raleigh, Camila Figueroa, Katie Rebuck, and Maddie Sue Pflum capped their remarkable postseason by being named to the TAPPS 6A All-Tournament Team, but Bishop Lynch ultimately fell to Antonian, 3–1, in the state championship match last Friday afternoon at Robinson High School.

The Friars (23–15) battled to the very end, finishing the match with 37 kills, 79 digs, nine blocks, and six aces. In their final match in the Black and White, Pflum closed her career with five kills and a block, while Rebuck added 12 digs and an ace. Kylie Love — the engine of the Friars' postseason run — delivered yet another double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs, plus three blocks. Raleigh also recorded a double-double, posting 29 assists and 14 digs.

Bishop Lynch came out fearless in the opening set, racing to a 10–5 advantage. With strong net play from Charlie Wells and a smooth, balanced attack, the Friars pushed the lead to 19–11 before taking the first set 25–16 and seizing all the early momentum.

Set two followed a similar pattern early, with the Friars building a 14–8 lead. But the Apaches responded with their best stretch of the match, clawing back to tie it at 23–23. A huge block from Wells put Bishop Lynch on set point, poised to take a commanding 2–0 lead — but Antonian answered with three straight points to snatch the set 26–24 and flip the match on its head.

From there, the toll of the Friars' incredible postseason run began to show. After coming inches from a 2–0 advantage, Bishop Lynch's legs looked heavier, while the Apaches found rhythm on offense and tightened their defensive coverage. Antonian controlled the final two sets and completed the comeback to secure the state title.

Even in defeat, the Friars' journey was extraordinary. A team that refused to fold all postseason punched its way to the state final and stood toe-to-toe with one of TAPPS' premier programs. There is nothing for this group to hang its head about — reaching the championship stage is an achievement few teams ever experience. Congratulations to the entire program for a historic and inspiring season.

SEMI-FINAL MATCH
To earn their spot in the championship, the Friars delivered a statement win on Thursday, November 13, defeating Nolan Catholic 3–1 in the TAPPS 6A Semifinals.

Kylie Love played one of the greatest matches of her Bishop Lynch career, producing a massive 20–20 double-double with a career-high 25 kills and 20 digs. She also added three aces and three blocks.

Raleigh was outstanding as well, recording 38 assists and 12 digs. At the net, Pflum set the tone with a career-high six blocks to go along with six kills, anchoring a defensive effort that propelled the Friars into the state championship match.
