Bishop Lynch Athletics Celebrates Final Signing Day

DALLAS — Congratulations to the following five Bishop Lynch student-athletes on signing to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level. Bishop Lynch Athletics hosted a ceremony Wednesday morning to celebrate Haden Chavez, Sam Elrich, Lucas Martinez, Ava Wennerstrom, and John Medaris. 

"It is an honor to be able to celebrate with these student-athletes and their families as they look ahead to this exciting new chapter of academic and athletic growth," said Director of Athletics Alex Cantillo. "Bishop Lynch Athletics lays a foundation of athletic and personal excellence that endures far beyond our Friars' time at BL, and these five student-athletes exemplify that virtue. I am proud of the dedication and resilience that they have shown throughout their high school athletic careers and I'm excited for their journey ahead."

Haden Chavez - Powerlifting, Greenville University
Chavez was a cornerstone member of the Bishop Lynch powerlifting team for the past four seasons. This season, he finished fifth at regionals and posted career highs in all three lifts: a 600-pound squat, 340-pound bench press, and 515-pound deadlift. 

Sam Elrich - Baseball, McLennan Community College
A three-year letterman on the Bishop Lynch varsity baseball team, Elrich has appeared in 84 games as both a standout pitcher and first baseman. His honors include: TAPPS Division I-District 1 Pitcher of the Year (2024), TAPPS First Team All-State (2024), TAPPS Honorable Mention All-State (2023), TAPPS First Team All-District (2024), TAPPS Second Team All-District (2023). Additional honors for this season are forthcoming.

Lucas Martinez - Soccer, University of Dallas
Martinez is a two-year letterman in the Bishop Lynch soccer program. During his senior season, he scored four goals and added six assists, helping lead the Friars to the TAPPS regional round. He earned TAPPS Division I-District 2 Honorable Mention All-District honors this season. 

Ava Wennerstrom - Volleyball, Menlo College
Wennerstrom was a two-year letterman on the Bishop Lynch varsity volleyball team. She appeared in more than 60 matches during her career and recorded 299 kills, 76 digs, and 47 blocks.

John Medaris - Football, Schreiner University
Medaris was a two-year letterman on the Bishop Lynch varsity football team, appearing in 24 games, primarily as a cornerback. He totaled 99 tackles, 21 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. His honors include: TAPPS Second Team All-State (2023), TAPPS First Team All-District (2023), and TAPPS Honorable Mention All-District (2024).
