Friars Open Season with Victory Over Hillcrest

DALLAS – The Bishop Lynch volleyball team (1-0) started the 2025 season on a high note, defeating the Hillcrest Panthers (0-1) 3-1 on Tuesday night inside the Competition Gym. The victory marked a strong debut for the Friars, who controlled the pace from the opening serve to the final point.

Match Highlights:
  • Bishop Lynch won its third consecutive season opener.
  • Maia Raleigh recorded her eighth career match with 20-plus assists.
  • Ten Friars made their varsity debut in the season opener.
  • The offense was powered by 43 team kills, led by Camila Figueroa's 11.
  • Katie Rebuck anchored the back row with a team and career-high 17 digs.
  • Maddie Pope led the serving attack with a team-high three aces.


In the first set, Bishop Lynch set the tone early with a balanced attack and aggressive serving, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before closing out a 25-19 win. Emory Moony and Figueroa each tallied three kills in the opening frame, while eight Friars recorded at least one kill.

Hillcrest responded in the second set, engaging in a back-and-forth battle before holding on late to even the match with a 25-23 decision. Figueroa again led the Friars with three kills, but the team hit just .118 in the frame.

The Friars regrouped in the third and fourth sets, controlling both on the way to closing out the match. The fourth set was Bishop Lynch's most efficient, producing match highs of 13 kills, 21 digs, and three aces. Aliyah Bruner contributed four kills and two blocks in the final two sets to help secure the season-opening victory.

SUB-VARSITY RESULTS:
Bishop Lynch's sub-varsity teams also earned clean sweeps on the night, as the freshman, junior varsity 2, and junior varsity 1 squads each posted 2-0 victories over Hillcrest.

NEXT UP:
The Friars return to action Thursday morning in the Argyle Showcase, opening tournament play at 9 a.m. against Richland.
