Vowels Reaches Career Milestone as Friars Defeat Vikings

DALLAS — Bishop Lynch senior guard Fre Vowels has been a staple of the women's basketball program for four seasons, appearing in nearly 140 games and earning 115 starts. On Tuesday night, she reached a major milestone, scoring her 1,500th career point in the Friars' 64-46 victory over Nolan Catholic in the Competition Gym.

While Vowels deservedly stole the spotlight, Avery Billotte turned in her best night as a Friar. The junior transfer poured in a career-high 23 points, knocking down five three-pointers on nine attempts, to help lead the Black & White. Freshman Eleanor Prosser also played a key role, adding 16 points and five rebounds.

With the win, the Friars improved to 14-12 overall to close out non-district play and moved to 6-2 at home on the season.

POSTGAME NOTES
  • Dating back to 2008, Bishop Lynch is 35-1 against Nolan Catholic and has won 30 consecutive games against the Vikings.
  • Ciara Osuji recorded a career-high 10 rebounds, the second-most by any Friar in a game this season.
  • The Friars' starting lineup featured Avery Billotte, Fre Vowels, Ava Storey, Eleanor Prosser, and Kate Webb. It marked Storey's first career start.
NEXT UP:
Bishop Lynch opens district play against its longest rival, Ursuline Academy, on Friday, January 9, in the Jane Neuhoff Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Bears enter the matchup with a 10-12 record, having won five of their last seven games.
