Bartkoski’s Late Strike Lifts Friars Past Eagles

DALLAS — Nikolas Bartkoski couldn't have picked a better moment for his first goal of the season. With less than 10 minutes remaining, the senior captain blasted a shot past the Eagle keeper to secure a 2-1 district-opening victory over Legacy Christian Academy on Thursday night at Roffino Stadium.

Goals (Assists)
28' Bishop Lynch - Conor Stubbings (Noah Chac)
72' Bishop Lynch - Nikolas Bartkoski (Cooper Spillman)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Friars were eager to start district play on the right foot, having not played since December 10, and they wasted little time asserting control. While the match remained scoreless early on, Bishop Lynch dictated the tempo and maintained control of possession throughout the opening minutes.

The breakthrough finally came in the 28th minute when Conor Stubbings capitalized on a deflection inside the box and finished calmly to give the Friars a 1-0 advantage, a lead they carried into halftime.

Legacy Christian responded in the second half, finding an equalizer to tie the match at 1-1, and the match began to resemble last season's tightly contested battles between the two sides. The Eagles continued to apply pressure, but Luke Hildenbrand stood tall in goal, making several key saves to keep the Friars level.

The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Bartkoski stepped up, firing a long-range effort past the keeper for his first goal of the season. Bishop Lynch held firm defensively over the final eight minutes to close out the win and open district play at 1-0.
