Bishop Lynch Women’s Swimming Wins Third Straight Title, Fourth in Program History

SAN ANTONIO — Dynasties echo through sports history in threes. The Bulls of the '90s. The Showtime Lakers. The Bronx Bombers. Greatness, repeated until it becomes inevitable.

Inside the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio on Wednesday, the Bishop Lynch women added their own chapter to that legacy.

With a commanding 325-point performance at the TAPPS 6A State Championship, finishing 81 points ahead of second-place Ursuline Academy, the Friars captured their third consecutive state title and fourth since 2022. Bishop Lynch reached the podium in seven of eleven events, highlighted by gold in the 200-yard Medley Relay, further cementing its place among the state's elite programs.

Grier Beeson, named North Regional Swimmer of the Meet, once again led the Friars on the biggest stage. She earned four podium finishes: silver in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, and 400 Freestyle Relay, along with gold in the 200 Medley Relay.

The championship-opening 200 Medley Relay team of Beeson, Carolina Girard, Ella Whitney, and Caroline Hays swam a 1:51.31 to claim the Friars' lone gold medal of the meet and set the tone for the day.

Girard proved to be another key piece of the championship puzzle. In addition to relay gold, she earned silver in the 100 Breaststroke and bronze as part of the 200 Freestyle Relay team.

The Friars' depth shined throughout the meet. Sophia Whitney delivered a breakout performance in her first state appearance, reaching the podium three times — in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays and individually in the 500 Freestyle. Hays also stood on the podium three times, contributing in both relays and adding a bronze in the 200 Freestyle.

Penelope Peck, Emily Schwabe, and Ella Whitney each earned relay medals, continuing the team-wide effort that defined the meet.

This championship was not won by a few stars alone — it was secured by a team of 12. One of the largest state squads in program history, the Friars generated critical depth points across nearly every event, proving this title was built not just on talent, but on depth.

"In the past, our success has been the result of a few generational stars," said head coach Ross Myers. "But this year, we qualified more swimmers than ever before, so we had depth in virtually every event."

Congratulations to Ema Barron, Grier Beeson, Rachel Camp, Claire Fike, Carolina Girard, Caroline Hays, Evie Leu, Ellie McPike, Penelope Peck, Emily Schwabe, Ella Whitney, and Sophia Whitney on cementing their place in Bishop Lynch history and capturing the school's 108th state championship.

The Bishop Lynch men also delivered a strong performance, scoring 109 points to finish ninth overall.

Rush Trent led the way, earning a bronze medal in the 50 Freestyle and narrowly missing the podium in the 100 Freestyle with a fourth-place finish. His time of 21.95 in the 50 Free broke his own school record set just weeks earlier at regionals.

All seven Friars competed with determination, signaling continued growth for the program.

"The only thing that rivaled our women's dominance was our men's emergence as a legitimate contender for the years to come, led by record holder Rush Trent," Myers said.
