TCA was the District-2 regular-season champs while Bishop Lynch finished in third. These two evenly matched teams split the regular-season series 1-1. Each team won on their home court 3-0; TCA beat the Friars on October 22nd, and the Friars beat TCA on October 31st. The total score in those two matches was 133 for TCA and 127 for Bishop Lynch. Needless to say, this has the making of being a great game.
On a neutral court, no team will have that home-court advantage. The game will be played in Plano at John Paul II, and both TCA and Bishop Lynch won their games there this year. TCA beat JPII 3-1 on October 2nd, and the Friars beat JPII 3-1 on October 29th. John Paul II's gym is very similar to BL's competition gym, and because of that similarity, the Friars should be more comfortable playing there.
The game is also on a Saturday, which means the lead up to the game is very different from a school day. Take it for what you will, but the Friars are 2-0 on Saturday games this year, including their win over TCA. TCA's only Saturday game has been against BL this year.
KEYS TO THE GAME:
Friars' defense will need to play well against TCA's offense to get the upset victory. If the Friars defense can slow down the district champs offense, that will go a long way. The Friars need to limit their serving errors also. In their game against Midland, the Friars served well in the first couple of sets, but they had too many errors in the third set. If the Friars do that against TCA, it could be a long night.Â
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Look for
Lauryn Lambert and
Leah Oyewole to have big games tonight. They are both powerful hitters on the Friars' offense and have been playing well.
