Box Score PLANO - Bishop Lynch traveled to undefeated number one Prestonwood last night and, despite great play, lost 3-1, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 22-25.
Prestonwood is undefeated in district play and, before last night, had not dropped a single set throughout district. The Friars changed that, though, when they walked into the Lion's Den and took the first set 25-19.
Lauryn Lambert and
Leah Oyewole had seven kills total in the first set to help the Friars shock Prestonwood.
In the second set, the Friars were always fighting back, and senior
Maddie Nolan kept them in the game with five kills alone in the second set. BL tied it up at 20, but Prestonwood would take the second set 25-21.
The third set could not have started worse for BL, and at one point, Prestonwood was winning 20-10. But the ladies did not throw in the towel and fought back to make the score 23-22 after a
Maddie Smotherman ace. Though the comeback fell short, it was impressive by the Friars not to throw in the towel on the set and fight back.
The fourth set was again back and forth, but in the end, the Lions would win 25-22 and remain undefeated in district play. Though BL lost, they pushed Prestonwood to a place they haven't been in district play yet. BL made a decent amount of unforced mistakes throughout the night and still almost made this a five-set match on the road. If they can limit their serving errors and a few more mental mistakes, they have a real shot at beating the Lions.
Maddie Nolan had a great game throughout the night. Anytime we needed a big point, she was there with a kill.
Maddie Smotherman was also on fire, racking up 29 digs throughout the night. She was running and diving all over the court.
Next time BL faces off against Prestonwood, it will be on our home court with Friar Nation at the team's back. That game has all the makings of a classic.Â
