Cardenas and the Friars defeat Skyline for their first home victory of the season

DALLAS -- The Bishop Lynch women's basketball team earned their first victory in front of Friar Nation on Tuesday night with an outstanding 49-41 win over Skyline. This was a huge win for the Friars as Skyline has victories over Allen, Plano and Plano East this season.

The Friars were led by their senior captain Natalie Cardenas who recorded her first double-double of the season in the victory. She finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds on the night, with shooting splits of 50/50/89.

Skyline came into the game with a dynamic offense that averages nearly 50 points per game. The coaches put together a great defensive game plan that held the Lady Raiders to their lowest scoring output on the season with just 41 points. The Friars forced 14 turnovers and had nine steals and a block. Maddie Heiss led the team with four steals and Ellery Sample had the lone block. BL turned the 14 turnovers into 16 points on the night.

Ellery Sample had a big second half for the Friars. She scored all 11 of her points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter. She also added eight rebounds on the night. Sample is coming off of a knee injury that caused her to miss the majority of last season, and she is starting to find her groove. She averaged 9.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in her last three games.

Sub-Varsity:
The junior varsity won a thriller over Skyline 38-37. Liz Rocha hit a free throw with 1.2 seconds left to give the Friars the lead and eventually the victory.
The freshman also won their game over Skyline, 56-49. This was a back-and-forth matchup all game until BL ran away with it in the fourth.

Next Up:
The Friars host the Knights of Columbus Tournament from December 1st through December 3rd. They will open up the 59th KoC tournament against Hockaday at 5:30 PM on Thursday.
