CELINA - The Dallas Morning News' top-ranked 5A team looked the part last Friday as Celina defeated Bishop Lynch 65-3 at Bobcat Stadium.
None of the Friars' three phases of the game looked particularly great against the Bobcats on Friday, as Celina was able to score at will and stop any momentum BL's offense created. Three points are the Friars' lowest scoring outing since 2020.
Legend Howell got the start at quarterback for the Friars and the freshman continues to show why the coaches have so much faith in a freshman quarterback. He finished the game going 10-15 with 74 yards against a tough Celina defense. He also picked up a few first downs with his feet throughout the game.
Godswill Giadolor had the most productive day in the backfield for the Friars. The junior led the team in rushing with 81 yards on just nine carries. He is averaging 9.5 yards per rush through the first two games this season.
Defensively,
Henry Basham was definitely a bright spot for BL. He finished with a career-high eight tackles and the lone sack for the Friar defense.
Henry Nyhart scored the only points for BL on Friday night when he kicked a 21-yard field goal right down the middle. Nyhart remains perfect on his extra points and field goals this season.
The Friars have a bye week to recalibrate this week and then return to Roffino Stadium against Dallas Christian on Friday, September 16th at 7:30 PM.
