Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | BLHS Sports Information

Friars tame defending state champions by 28 points last Friday

DALLAS, TX -- Baker Trent's game-high 23 points helped Bishop Lynch defeat Prestonwood Christian Academy 82-54 last Friday to open up district play. This is the first time the men's basketball program has opened up district play with a victory since a 53-46 win over Trinity Christian Academy in the 2020-2021 season.

Trent was certainly not the only Friar who had a hot hand as four players scored in double digits: RJ Yttredahl (12), Jeremiah Williams (11), and Nathan Day (10). As a team, the Friars shot 51.6% from the field because of the amount of easy transition points the defense created. The Friars scored 17 points and 19 points off turnovers.

Yttredahl may have had his best game in a Friar uniform as the junior finished with 12 points on 6-8 shooting while also grabbing nine rebounds. The undersized big man uses his strength and moxie in the paint to create easy shots for himself. His determination and no-quit attitude are why he comes down with so many rebounds and has proven to be a pain for opposing big men.

Grady Norton had another successful game off the bench, drilling three three-points to finish the game with nine points while also collecting three rebounds and two assists. Devin Miller has been this team's Mr. Reliable this season. The senior had a quiet game in the state sheet, but his team-high +35 shows how important he is to this team.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first quarter set the tone for the entire game as the Friars spread the ball around on their way to a 14-11 advantage. Five players got points in the first quarter with Devin Miller leading the way with four. The biggest play of the quarter may have been Trent finding Norton in the corner for a three which made it 10-5 Friars and the team never looked back.

Trent's biggest quarter of the entire game was the second quarter, where the senior scored nine of his 23 points. Baker can score in multiple ways, but his quickness and decisiveness help him get open shots in the paint, where he has found success all year. His nine points, combined with seven bench points, helped the Friars take a 37-25 lead into the half.

The offense exploded in the third quarter with Yttredahl, Trent, and Jeremiah Williams all scoring 5+ points. As a trio, they scored 18 points on 6-11 shooting and 5-7 from the free throw line. They also had three assists and zero turnovers while collecting seven rebounds and two steals.

BL ran away with it in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Lions 22-12 on their way to the 82-54 victory. The team shot 9-13 in the quarter while holding PCA to just 5-24.
