Friars jump out of the gate with a dominant win over Bishop Dunne

DALLAS -- Nothing like starting out the season with a dominant home victory against a former rival. The Bishop Lynch baseball team defeated Bishop Dunne 10-1 on Saturday afternoon at McIngvale Field.

Senior Brandon Bertsch started on the mound for the Friars and looked even better than he did in his junior campaign where he struck out 90 batters, second most in school history. He opened up the season in spectacular fashion by striking out the side. He would only pitch 2.0 innings, but he struck out five Falcons.

Sam Elrich had a great day both on the mound and at the plate. The sophomore went 2-2 with two RBIs, two runs and a walk. He closed out the game for the Friars on the mound with a three up three down inning with two strikeouts. Overall the pitching by BL was outstanding as they combined to only give up four hits while striking out 11 batters.

Ryder Bunfill and Aaron Reeves each added two RBIs for the Friars on their way to a 10-run output. The Friars only managed to score 10+ runs six times in 2022 so to start off the 2023 season with an offensive explosion is a great sign for the black and white.

NEXT UP:
The Friars face off tomorrow, February 7th, against Legacy Christian in our annual game at Globe Life Field in Arlington. First pitch will be at 6:00 PM.
