Alcala, McGuinness Lead Friars Past Nolan in Area Playoffs

DALLAS — The Bishop Lynch baseball team advanced to the TAPPS Division I Regional Finals with a 4-1 victory over Nolan Catholic on Tuesday night at McIngvale Field. The win was powered by a dominant outing from Julian Alcala and a standout performance at the plate from Will McGuinness.

Despite a weather delay of more than an hour due to lightning, Alcala remained locked in on the mound. The senior right-hander, who entered the game at 7-1 with a sub-2.00 ERA, carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He finished with a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out 11. He even threw an immaculate inning in the top of the third, striking out all three Viking batter on just nine pitches.

McGuinness continued his strong stretch at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-with two runs, an RBI, and a walk. The sophomore has now scored in six straight games and extended his on-base streak to 10.

The Friars struck early in the bottom of the first before the delay. McGuinness singled and advanced to third on a pair of Nolan errors before scoring on an RBI single from Elliott Brown to give Bishop Lynch a 1-0 lead.

After the delay, the game settled into a pitcher's duel, with the Friars holding the edge. Bishop Lynch consistently put runners on base but was unable to add to its lead until the fifth inning.

Brown sparked the offense again in the fifth, bringing home Noah Herrmann with a sacrifice bunt. Later in the inning, Jake Bacsik delivered an RBI single to score McGuinness and extend the lead to 3-0.

The Friars added an insurance run in the sixth when McGuinness drove in Jake Fitzgerald with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Nolan Catholic broke up the no-hitter in the seventh and pushed across a run, but Alcala closed the door to secure the win and a spot in the regional finals.

The Friars travel to Argyle to face Liberty Christian in the TAPPS Division I Regional Finals. The best-of-three series begins Monday, May 11, with Game 1 scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and Game 2 set to follow approximately 30 minutes after. If necessary, Game 3 will be played Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00 p.m. All games will be held at Lovelace Family Baseball Stadium.
